What Coins.ph's BSP licence requires

  • Licence: Coins.ph operates under a BSP Certificate of Authority as a VASP, covering exchanging pesos and crypto, swapping one crypto for another, transferring crypto and keeping it for customers.BSP Circular No. 1108, s. 2021
  • Capital: a VASP that keeps customers' crypto in custody must have at least ₱50,000,000 in paid-in capital; one that does not, at least ₱10,000,000.BSP Circular No. 1108, s. 2021
  • What the licence does not do: it does not protect you from price swings. The same circular requires the VASP to disclose the risks of buying, holding and trading crypto before your first trade.BSP Circular No. 1108, s. 2021

Rules from the BSP Circular No. 1108, s. 2021 (issued January 2021).

If something goes wrong with Coins.ph

  • If you have a problem with a transaction: complain to Coins.ph first; every financial service provider must run a free consumer assistance desk for complaints. If you are not satisfied, take it to the BSP.RA 11765 sec. 8(f), in force since 2022
  • If a transaction is disputed or unauthorized: Coins.ph must suspend interest, fees and charges on the disputed amount, or give a similar reasonable accommodation, until its investigation is done.RA 11765 sec. 8(f), in force since 2022
  • If you want your money back: the BSP can decide purely civil claims for a sum of money up to ₱10,000,000, and its decision is final and executory.RA 11765 sec. 6(f), in force since 2022
  • If someone asks you to invest through it: Coins.ph's BSP licence covers Coins.ph, not the people collecting money through it. SEC scam advisories have named licensed wallets and banks as the payment channel for unregistered schemes; check the scheme itself on Check with SEC.
