How the check works
The Insurance Commission publishes its lists of licensed agents as PDF files on its licensed agents page. The life list dated Sep 25, 2026 alone runs to 3,286 pages. This tool searches the same entries by name and shows what you need to verify an agent: the company, the agent type, each licence type and its expiry date.
What the check does not cover
- Pre-need sales counselors. They hold a separate IC licence and are not on these lists (Pre-Need Code sec. 20).
- HMO sellers. No HMO appears as a company on the agent lists; ask the HMO to confirm anyone selling its plans.
- Brokers. Brokers are companies with their own licence; check them on the broker list.
- Agents licensed after Sep 25, 2026. The IC posts new lists weekly; a new agent may only appear on a later one.
Reading the result
- Company. An agent may sell only for the company shown. If they offer you a policy from a different insurer, ask why.
- Licence type. Life, variable life (for VUL), non-life and microinsurance are separate licences. An agent selling you a VUL should hold a variable life licence.
- Expiry. Each licence shows the date it runs to.
- Same name, different people. Common names return many matches. Use the first name and company filters, and compare the middle name.
Checking the company too? Every insurer on the agent lists has a licence page; start from the insurance hub.
If the agent is not licensed
- If the agent is not licensed: no one may sell insurance for a commission without an IC licence, renewed every three years, and no insurer may pay them. Check any name on the agent check.Insurance Code sec. 307
- If the seller is not licensed: no insurance company may do business without a Certificate of Authority, and the IC tells the public not to deal with any company or person without a valid IC licence. Report them to the IC Regulation, Enforcement and Prosecution Division at (632) 8523-8461 local 115 or repd@insurance.gov.ph. IC Notice to the PublicInsurance Code sec. 193
Questions
How do I check if an insurance agent is licensed in the Philippines?
Search the agent's last name above. The check covers the Insurance Commission lists of life and non-life agents with an active licence dated Sep 25, 2026: 139,920 licensed agents, counted once for each company they sell for. A genuine result shows the company and the date each licence ends.
What is a variable licence?
A separate licence an agent needs to sell variable life products such as VUL. The result shows it as "Variable life" with its own expiry date.
How long is an insurance agent licence valid?
Three years. The licence expires after Dec 31 of the third year from issue unless the company renews it (Insurance Code sec. 307). Licences on the Sep 25, 2026 lists end on Dec 31, 2026, Dec 31, 2027, Dec 31, 2028.
How do I become a licensed insurance agent?
Apply to the Insurance Commissioner in writing, with the application approved or endorsed by the insurer you will represent, and pay the fee. The Commissioner checks your competence and trustworthiness before issuing the licence, which is renewed every three years (Insurance Code sec. 307).
The agent is not on the list. What now?
Check the spelling and try the last name alone. The IC posted new lists on 11, 18 and 25 September 2026, so a newly licensed agent may only appear on a later list. If the name still does not appear, ask the agent for their licence and confirm with the company they say they represent before you pay anything.
