Maya fees and limits

Maya charges ₱10 per InstaPay transfer to a bank. Over-the-counter cash-in is free up to ₱8,000 a month, then 2% of the amount above that; cashing out at a Maya Center costs 1.5% of the amount, for upgraded accounts. An Upgraded account can hold ₱100,000. A month with 4 bank transfers and ₱10,000 cashed in over the counter costs ₱80.

Our take: once you pass ₱8,000 of over-the-counter cash-in in a month, cash in from a bank app instead; 31 institutions charge nothing for InstaPay (see which). Money you are not spending earns more in Maya Savings: ₱10,000 there keeps ₱242.66 in a year after tax.

Next: pick the cheapest way to cash in and out, or if someone got into your account, report it now.

How the Maya fees and limits work in practice

  • Cash-in feeThe over-the-counter partner collects 2% at the counter. While you are under ₱8,000 for the month, Maya refunds that fee within 1 to 3 business days; above ₱8,000, only 2% of the amount over the limit is kept. If a refund has not arrived after 3 business days, contact the Maya Help Center. Maya
  • At a limitA Basic account cannot send to banks by InstaPay or withdraw at ATMs. If you need either, upgrade your account in the app first. Maya
  • Which profileEvery Maya account can receive up to ₱50,000 per InstaPay transfer from a bank, and Upgraded accounts can send up to ₱50,000 a day to banks. Maya

Earning interest on your Maya balance

The wallet itself pays no interest. Maya Savings, run by Maya Bank, starts at 3% a year, credited daily net of tax, and can be boosted up to 15% a year by using Maya for payments or growing your balance. Personal Goals pay up to 8% a year, credited monthly. Maya Bank

On ₱10,000 left for a year at the base 3.00%, you keep ₱242.66 after the 20% final tax. Maya Savings is a deposit at Maya Bank, so the PDIC insures it up to ₱1,000,000 per depositor, counted with your other accounts at Maya Bank.
